Individual Logins

Some users have only dial-up access to the Internet via a commercial ISP such as AOL, IBM or MCI. Our normal granting of a site license to a specific Internet subnet is not appropriate for those users. There are two ways to handle this situation.

The first method is for the user to select the Information for subscribers and others expecting free downloads link on the bibliographic page of any available working paper. That link will prompt for an email address, and if the address is in our authorization database a URL for the paper will be mailed. This URL is valid from any computer for 7 days. We only need your email address for this to work. If your email address is specific to your institution (even though the domain name for your computer is not) we can put the email server for your institution in the database. This will enable all staff to obtain working papers.

A second method is appropriate for individual heavy users. In these cases we can accept a login id and password from the user, who can browse http://papers.nber.org/ and select the login button at the bottom of the page.

Once logged in, the user will be offered the full-text for any Working Paper found through any of the search pages. The login session lasts for the remainder of the browser session.

Because security for our login-id/password file is weak, you are requested to avoid sending us a password you use in any other significant context. A weak password is OK for this site.

We do not offer login access to institutions with site access because the URL method described above should be sufficient.
